“Big Old Daddy”

About my politics

  • Big believer in the significance of one person’s actions.
  • Like the idea of “freedom to” much better than “freedom from” (most of the time).
  • Would like to see real compassionate conservatism.
  • “Justice for all” should not depend on ability to pay.
  • Foreign policy ideas: More negotiating, less invading. Richest nations should have highest per capita giving. Don’t support tyrants. Get out of arms business. Invest money in feeding, housing, clothing, educating and healing people instead of killing them. Think globally. Act like we belong to the community of nations.
  • Slightly more conservative on fiscal issues and some social issues.
  • Corporations are not people.  They don’t act like people, and they should not be treated (legally or otherwise) like people.
  • Have been known to vote for Republicans and, of course, some of my best friends are Republicans (insuring domestic tranquility).
  • Don’t often like government solutions. However:
    • Individual and corporate greed must be checked (part of providing for the common defense).
    • Those with plenty must be strongly encouraged – more than just tax breaks – to assist those with little, and we need strong safety nets (promoting the general welfare).

Sounds pretty fair Tom, as I mentioned to you before…my general slant is for smaller government. It seems that I hope in Christ and his church for many of the things that people hope for in the government…not that Christ and his church cannot hope for the best in government.
