A big old silver lining

Striking members of the Writers Guild of America are unwittingly giving us a golden opportunity to kick the TV habit.

While the strike continues, the networks keep rerunning reruns and hoping viewers don’t gag on an even heavier diet of reality shows. What could be a better time for Americans to turn off tens of millions of TVs? Start feeling better right away and consider better, healthier, more life-giving things to do:

  • read a book
  • talk to your family
  • go for a walk
  • call a friend
  • write a letter
  • clean out your closet
  • exercise
  • pray
  • volunteer
  • dust
  • visit a neighbor
  • cook
  • learn something new
  • look out a window
  • take a nap
  • balance your checkbook
  • knit
  • play a game
  • blog

More ideas will come as we emerge from the fog of TV’s notions of “entertainment” and breathe the clearer air of our own thoughts and imaginations. Try it!
